A Chevy Elite Auto Extravaganza and the Cars 3 Trailer

Hey everyone! Welcome to the first blog of may! (I swear April wasn't going to be over for another week, whoops.) It’s been a couple of weeks now and I apologize for not getting this up sooner but we’re finally racing into Part 2 of my Elite Auto trip! Last time on my Elite Auto blog (Here’s a link too that: https://zakentertainment.blogspot.com/2017/04/jaw-dropping-vintage-cars-at-elite-auto.html) I took you guys into Elite Auto of Shreveport, Louisiana nestled here on 2915 Youree Drive and first impressions were pretty great, while primarily they are a used car dealer they also act as kind of an auto museum. This place has some incredible vintage and antique cars and last time I showed you quite a few of my favorites. Of course that wasn’t all they had in store so let’s buckle up and dive back into Elite Auto!

Remember that Austin Healey 5000? Well sitting right next to it was a car of similar color and just as higher octane awesomeness. Corvettes are pretty popular won’t you say? Well here’s a Corvette to top them all. This is a 1959 Chevy Corvette 2 door convertible!

Incredible as the eye can see this car was one of my favorites going into this place but I decided to showcase the Austin Healey last time instead of this car. Funnily enough this car and the 1959 Austin Healey 5000 both came out on the same year so competition between the motors surely rose.

The Chevrolet Corvette was designed and developed by General Motors and car designer Harley Earl. With his love for sports cars and with a need for a more moderate-priced sports model cars Earl convinced GM to begin “Project Opel” which was back in the late 1951. The outcome of this project was a hand built, EX-122 pre-production prototype of the Corvette. Which a wide public reception productions on the Corvette began in 1953 and they’ve been a widely popular car ever since.

Might as well call this the Corvette blog because in the room across from the 1959 Corvette is a sleek, stylish and much newer 2000 Chevrolet Corvette C5!

Take a look between the 1959 first generation Corvette and this 5th generation Corvette… There’s a huge difference isn’t there? Corvette has changed a lot over the years and this modern Corvette has more of the Corvette look that you see around these days. This Corvette was the kind of Corvettes you would see from it’s release in 1997 to 2004 and you still see these around a lot. Taking on a more flat sleeker appearance and was designed by John Cafaro.

This specific Corvette looks like it’s had a custom job done on it as it as this awesome black almost arrow like stripe coming from it’s trunk to the front of the grill. This model is also specifically a hard top, which actually makes this the only Corvette in this building not to be a convertible. While I think the 1959 Chevy Corvette is my favorite Corvette this Corvette is a sweet ride… Speaking of ride I wish I could of gotten to test drive some of these cars, maybe I can on my next trip who knows. The special custom job of this Corvette makes this one of a kind.

Now onto the next car! Sitting to the right of that Corvette as you probably saw is a baby blue motor. Guess what brand of car this is? Yeah we’re definitely naming this the Chevy blog because sitting next to that Corvette was this awesome 1966 Chevy Impala Super Sport!

This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve featured a Chevy Impala on the blog and not the first time I’ve featured a Super Sport model. Back in January I found this rusty 1964 Chevy Impala Super Sport so it’s awesome to find another Super Sport that’s only two years newer. (To read more on the 1964 Chevy Impala follow this link: https://zakentertainment.blogspot.com/2017/01/a-vintage-1964-chevy-throwback.html)

Here’s a comparison between the two. Despite an only two year difference the newer Chevy Impala has quite a few differences, having a more pointed front then it’s older self. This 1966 Chevy is also as you can notice a 2 door coupe while the 1964 I found earlier on is a four door sedan. The Chevy Impala has been a brand that’s been there to this very day, though the new Chevy Impalas look almost nothing like their ancestors. Yeah these Impalas were the best (The 70s and 80s Impalas were awesome too.) and sadly I’m not very keen on the new Impalas. The Baby Blue color seems to fit this car perfectly. I
did find out a price on this car, it’s priced at 37,500 USD.

Yeah that reminds me, all of these cars in this Elite Auto place are actually for sale in some shape or form, so owning these amazing cars isn’t impossible… Wish I could get a hold of one of these cars, seriously.

Finally, the last car I found on my trip wasn’t actually in the building but sitting outside in the parking lot. Guess what car it is! A Chevy? No no this time it’s not a Chevy. This is a sweet 1968 Ford Galaxie 500!

Ford is probably one of if not the most popular brand of cars out there, it’s been around since the very early 1900s created by Henry Ford himself and many brands have joined the Ford Motor Company since then. When you ask somebody about Ford Brands they would probably tell you about the Mustang, Ford Fusion, Ford Focus, ect and the Ford Galaxie seems to be forgotten despite being a popular brand for its time. Running from 1959 to 1974 the Ford Galaxie came out during the big space race, everyone was crazy about space so it seemed only fitting to name this car the Ford Galaxie especially to compete against the Chevy Impala which was prominent around the same time. You can tell they were trying to compete with the Impala due to a similar look and this one specific Galaxie is actually a custom job. I was told it was a limited 5 only custom model, so that’s pretty awesome. I love the combination of colors on this Galaxie. The successor of this model would be the Ford LTD, which you’ve probably heard of more, this was a prominent car in the late 70s and early 80s.

Well that’s about it for the cars, I’ve showcased every car I spotted on my trip in part 1 and this blog. Elite Auto is a pretty incredible used car dealer you could say it seconds as a car museum. Check out Elite Auto on their website and also their Facebook! I will be heading back to Elite Auto pretty soon because they already have new cars in that I didn’t catch before. Maybe I can make frequent visits to Elite Auto to bring you guys some awesome new cars. If you’re in the Shreveport Louisiana area come down and check these guys out! They have some friendly people who were happy enough to discuss all these cars with me.

Don't forget to check out part 1 of my Elite Auto trip by following this link: https://zakentertainment.blogspot.com/2017/04/jaw-dropping-vintage-cars-at-elite-auto.html

I actually have one last car to show off today but It’s not from Elite Auto and is actually from a recent trip out… Do you like Volkswagen Beetles? Well I got a pretty sweet black one to show off!

Now I’m not a car expert and I say this a lot but me and dad (Who’s a bigger car fan then I am.) were playing around with the years on this car and I believe this is a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle. While the models around 1968-1972 looked about the same I think I can say this is a 1969 Beetle spot on. Pretty awesome, huh? This car even has the old storage rack on top. You know how the engine is normally in the front hood? Well with Volkswagen Beetles and Vans from then and even the new ones today you’ll find the hood is actually the storage and the trunk the engine. It’s a bit of a topsy-turvy situation but Volkswagen has always been that way and always will be.  This is probably my favorite color when it comes to Beetles of this age.

So yeah I just had to throw that in, it was too awesome to leave out and hey, I always have more room for car showcases. I need to start going around and actually test driving cars for future blogs, I mean I’m a pretty good driver and have been driving for a few years now.

Speaking of cars… Cars 3 released a brand new trailer! Yes Cars 3 is the sequel to the Cars franchise from Pixar animation. The original Cars movie released on May 26, 2006 and I actually really loved this movie, it had a colorful cast of awesome cars… That could talk. Yeah it was a new concept coming from Pixar but an awesome one at that. Cars did receive a sequel in the form of Cars 2 (As well as some spinoffs called Planes… Which wasn’t actually made by Pixar but Disney.) which took Lightning McQueen and Mater to the first World Grand Prix which took place in Japan, Italy and England... It also involves spies and secret agents… Odd. I’ve never seen Cars 2 for some reason but late last year with the release of Moana in theatres they released a short teaser for Cars 3… This made the movie look awfully dark, with Lightning McQueen getting wrecked and all. This new trailer seems to clear up that and make things seem like on track with the first movie and not so dark. Let’s dive right in!

This movie has to do a lot with Lightning McQueen’s Legacy. Lightning is not the top notch racer anymore, new cars such as Jackson Storm have come and taken Lightning’s place as top racer. It’s awesome how this franchise has come full circle with Lightning starting off as a complete cocky hotshot in the first movie and now he’s almost a veteran in sense fighting to win one last race.

Cars 3 will be going back to it’s Route 66 roots as well as bringing back the old characters. This is looking to be a perfect wrap to the Cars franchise, while keeping the same feel of the first movie and I’m quite excited to see this movie. It’ll be releasing on June  16th, later on this year! Stay tuned, I’ll be popping open my Cars DVD box and rewatching it and blogging about it for you guys closer to the release!

Another movie just came out in theatres that has just as much to do with cars and that’s Fast and Furious 8 other wise known as The Fate of the Furious. Now I’m not super well versed on this franchise, I’ve never really watched much of it. Which I’m not exactly sure why, it has action, cars, racing and it has The Rock and Vin Diesel both in the same movie. It released in theatres on April 12th and has already accumulated an estimate of 192.7 million, which is crazy it’s top of the box office right now. It seems to be featuring some awesome cars too so go check it out! I have like 7 movies to catch up on, because I’m not sure what the storyline is here.

Finally before we wrap, I can’t go anywhere without a knitting pattern feature! I’ll be featuring two patterns today; both are related to cars unlike my last car blog. Everyone’s heard of knit bombing right? Even non knitters know of this popular activity, to take something like a lamppost and knit something around it. I find it quite awesome and fashionable while others I guess view it as something not so nice but anyway there’s something I’ve always wanted to knit bomb and that’s a steering wheel. It’ll keep your hands warm AND you’ll go down the road in style. So today’s first pattern I’m featuring is called “Simple Steering Wheel Cover” by Rachael Stern!
I’ve seen these quite a lot lately but was never sure how it was made but by following this link to the pattern: http://raesofsunshine.blogspot.com/2009/03/steering-wheel-covers.html it’s not as hard as I thought. First off you need some Worsted Weight yarn but it seems best if you get 100% Cotton, two balls of Peaches & Cream will do well in your choice of color as well as Size US 10 needles. Basically you’re casting on using the two strand method knitting in garter until it’s long enough to stretch tightly around the steering wheel there’s some other stuff involved too but it doesn’t seem too complicated and if done right won’t slip around the wheel.

Pretty awesome, right? You will have to sew this onto the wheel so be sure to have some needle and thread! I think Dad wants me to knit him an LSU Football (Purple and Gold) colored one for his car… Mum will probably not let me do that. Remind me to knit this up for my car in the future. You can check this pattern out on Ravelry but the main pattern is up on Rachael’s website: http://raesofsunshine.blogspot.com/2009/03/steering-wheel-covers.html . Don’t knit bomb someone’s wheel without asking them first… Or do so I can’t control what you do. (Do it.)

You can’t knit bomb your cars without knit bombing your car keys, right? Okay it sounds a bit crazy and now that I mention it this would not work on a lot of new car keys because new car keys are more like remotes then actual keys (Still knit bombable just not with this pattern.) but your house keys would look pretty stylish in this! This is “Key Cozy” by Liat Gat.
At first I was thinking this would be two parts sewn together but it’s actually knitted in the round similar to a hat or those earbud cozies I made a while back. Your keys will look super stylish with this easy to knit pattern. You’re going to need 10 yards of fingering-weight yarn and US Size 1 DPNs or US Size 1 40-inch long circular lace needles in magic loop, which is what I’d probably use. You can check this pattern out on Ravelry or on Liat Gat’s website: http://knitfreedom.com/free-patterns/key-cozy-pattern-and-instructional-video . Go check out Liat Gat on Raverly she has some awesome patterns, some I may be featuring in the future.

Well that’s about it for today, I’m signing off and heading out…

That’s a wrap folks!
